Select text and right-click, the pick Search in Google is fairly well known. Throw in the Cmd key and the search results open in a new tab.

Thanks Vince. I knew about the right click search function but the Cmd key is a nice touch that I'll use often (I used to open a new tab and then copy text into the search box on that new tab).
